Sunny day in the Blue Lagoon

After we hit the Mud Bar, Blue Lagoon

We are finally on our way today! Hard to believe it. Mom and I immediately noticed that WOW Airlines sure has beautiful flight attendants--purple suits, cute hats, gorgeous hairstyles and perfect makeup. I felt like I was watching a fashion show. Sadly though, we boarded 45 minutes later than scheduled. Then a fuel truck showed up empty to put gas in the plane. Then a second truck did the same thing. Then we waited on paperwork for some cargo. After finally leaving Miami Airport three hours late, we had a smooth 7 hour flight...considering all the surrounding severe weather, and landed in Reykjavik around 7 a.m. Iceland time (2 a.m. at home).
I felt the best move considering our lack of sleep and mom's limited mobility was to get a room at the airport hotel next door to get a couple hours of sleep before venturing out. The gust of frigid air hit us hard as we walked the 3 minutes over there. Brrrrr... 27 degrees and maybe 20 MPH wind gusts.  Still dark.
We laid down in our overpriced room for maybe 90 minutes (it was supposed to be 6 hours...you know how plans fall apart sometimes) and had our breakfast. We then trekked back to board the shuttle to the Blue Lagoon--about 25 minutes from the airport. We could see the steam vents as we approached! Yes! Happiness!
Spending most of the afternoon dining and soaking in a geothermal milky spring while surrounded by lava rocks made our weary heads relax a bit. We floated over to the mud bar and caked on the silica scrub. Ten minutes later, our faces were as smooth as babies' bottoms.
We jumped on one last shuttle to Reykjavik--maybe 40 minutes--and were dropped off in front of Fosshotel Reykavik, where we will stay the next two nights. "Foss" means "falls," as in waterfalls, and my mom's maiden name is Foss....kinda neat.
And the blizzards we were expecting, after watching the weather the past 3 weeks, including an airport closure for the entire country?? Not a cloud in the sky all day. Stunning. Can't wait for tomorrow. It's supposed to be gorgeous again. Yes!
