Want to go to Iceland with me?

Ice cave in Skaftafell area, Vatnajokull National Park
Four weeks ago, my mom called and said she wanted to see the Northern Lights.  Want to go to Iceland with me?  Well mom...why not?  After asking my boss (thanks, Louise!), I decided the first week in March would be the best time for me to miss work.  Never mind mom and Bill booked a river cruise the last week in February already (!)

We are taking WOW airlines--apparently Iceland's version of Jet Blue (hopefully) or Spirit (hopefully not) and booked roundtrip tickets from Miami to Reykyavik.  So exciting.

Then, I looked at the weather report.  20 MPH sustained winds, gusts to 70 MPH (that's hurricane force for you non-Floridians), icy roads.....whuuuut?  Now that I'm older, I'm NOT a fan of guided tours AT ALL.  But OK--maybe I will cancel the rental car, as suggested by many resident experts on the Iceland Trip Advisor forums. Why worry about our car getting blown off the road? Craaazy.

Let's do a tour for the Northern Lights and have someone else do the driving.  I found a good one:
Land of fire and ice, here we come! Maybe we will see Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen.  They have filmed Game of Thrones here and the actors were recently spotted. With a population of less than 350,000, it can't be that difficult!

By the way, the storm report has been the same EVERY day...and continues for the upcoming 10 days. The entire airport was closed down last weekend. Wish us luck with the weather. We will need it!
